Registered Nurse Surgery/OR

UnityPoint Health- Fort Dodge

Full-time, 36 hours per week

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and monitors total physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of surgical patients from infant through geriatrics.
  • Develops and maintains an individualized, professionally modified plan of care reflective of changing needs/outcomes by evaluating the patient's needs during procedure.
  • Provides nursing care in accordance with nursing standards and the patient's plan of care.
  • Initiates teaching appropriate to patient procedure.
  • Performs circulating scrub duties according to surgery standards.
  • Assists the surgeon with exposure, hemostasis, wound closure and retraction.
  • Maintains aseptic technique.
  • Organizes instruments and supplies on Mayo stand and back table.
  • Demonstrates correct draping technique.
  • Prepares operative site prep per procedure.
  • Positions, supports, and/or restrains patient appropriately.
  • Positions electrosurgical grounding pad.
  • Performs accurate sponge, instrument and sharps count.
  • Identifies and prepares medications to be administered by physician.
  • Applies tourniquet cuffs to extremities.
  • Handles and labels specimens correctly.
  • Documents nursing care consistent with documentation guidelines.
  • Communicates with other members of the healthcare team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
  • Participates in unit operations demonstrating professional behaviors to include supporting goals of Nursing unit and maintaining awareness of resource utilization.
  • Participates in non-direct patient care activities including educational activities, performance improvement activities, standards development and review, hospital/nursing committees and other related activities.
  • Demonstrates competent use of computer programs as appropriate.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred, Associate Degree required

Nursing/Certified RNFA Course

Licensure:

Current RN Licensure in State of Iowa

Experience:

None required for RN, prefer 2 years’ surgical (OR) experience for RNFA
