Digital Content Specialist ID-11091

Summary

Part of the Library’s dynamic public communications team, the Digital Content Specialist contributes to and implements social media, email, and web-based marketing strategies, engaging diverse audiences with campaigns that meet targeted information needs. In collaboration with Public Affairs and Digital Branch staff, they apply best practices in online outreach, and to support audience development and engagement for Library collections and services, events, and initiatives. As an essential content creator, they contribute original ideas for copy, campaigns, and videos that support Library communications and engagement efforts. This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting salary of $50,382 plus excellent benefits.

Job Duties (Essential Functions) 

1. Collaborates with stakeholders throughout the Library to help create high-quality content and ensure accurate information in public communications.

 

Social Media (50%)

2. Manages the Library’s social media presence on relevant platforms including but not limited to Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Facebook. 

3. Establishes best practices for engaging audiences via social media and leads a Social Media Team of staff from across the Library. 

4. Monitors social media outlets, posting on appropriate topics or in response to other posts/comments. 

5. Tracks the Library’s social media efforts through analytics and benchmarks to help determine effectiveness and strategy. 

6. Manages digital engagement during live events, which will include evening and some weekend hours.

 

Digital Marketing (30%)

7. Works with Public Affairs team to coordinate Library communications, including maintaining accurate contact lists, producing the events newsletter, patron newsletter, and various single-event correspondence to promote Library happenings or notices. 

8. Serves as communications liaison with the Library's patron database and email messaging platform vendor. Serves as in-house expert and navigator for Library communications that make use of the service.

9. Provides training and evaluation on digital marketing effectiveness and coordinates email marketing needs across the Library, including subscription newsletters, special campaigns, patron notices, and other messaging. 

10. Manages paid media for social media platforms including efforts with influencers.

 

Other (20%)

11. Helps coordinate posts to the Library website as needed for digital marketing purposes.

12. Coordinates video content and production for Library marketing and engagement projects, which may include working with outside contractors. 

13. Performs related work and special projects as assigned.

14. Participates in programming and events in a monthly rotation with other Public Affairs staff. 

Requirements
  1. Demonstrated experience with online social networks and implementation of social media campaigns in an organizational environment. 
  2. Proven experience developing projects from initial concept through design, implementation, evaluation, and completion. 
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  4. Demonstrates ability to work effectively within deadlines and with minimal supervision.
  5. Demonstrates skill in establishing and maintaining relationships with internal and external groups.
  6. Familiarity and proficiency in navigating digital marketing and content platforms or software (E.g. MailChimp, Constant Contact, etc.).
  7. Ability to work a flexible schedule that will include evening and some weekend hours.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus related experience or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, digital storytelling, or computer science. 
  • 2-3 years of experience in professional digital marketing.
  • Familiarity or experience with video/audio production software and/or photo editing and design software (e.g., Adobe      Creative Suite). 
  • Knowledge of Drupal Content Management System or similar website management platforms.
