RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Conduct safety, hazardous materials, accidents, incidents and near miss investigations in a timely manner, identify contributing factors, prepare reports and summaries for review by operational management and HR, and ensure ensure that any improvement plan is identified and implemented.

Comply with federal and provincial requirements and submit all required regulatory documents (e.g., AML reports, RAESCR).

Review and analyze data on accidents, incidents and injuries, as well as planning actions taken to identify risks and implement control procedures.

Manage and monitor Riskmasters relating to vehicle accidents.

In collaboration with relevant stakeholders and using the QDM methodology, design and implement a comprehensive and sustainable safety strategy and ensure that annual reviews are carried out to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries.

Act as local contractual relations liaison by maintaining relationships with contractors.

Develop, implement and maintain work and safety policies, procedures and practices in accordance with the OHS Act and provincial and federal transportation and trucking industry laws.

Manage all security programs and initiatives (e.g. Security Clock).

Manage and evaluate safety audit procedures, provide improvement plans and program suggestions and implement necessary changes to address identified trends or resolve issues and ensure compliance with the OSH Act and regulations related.

Work in partnership with suppliers at all levels to ensure compliance and ensure training guidelines are consistent with FXFC and the requirements of government regulators.

Review minutes of all Health and Safety Committee meetings for compliance and ensure that all issues raised are addressed and closed in a timely manner.

Collaborate with the Learning and Development department to ensure the design and development of education and training programs for employee safety.

Maintain safety document library and record keeping systems (e.g., maintaining health and safety documents and certifications).

Plan, organize and conduct safety meetings and safety awareness campaigns throughout the year to develop a safety culture among contractors, suppliers and employees.

Actively participate in provincial and national organizations and associations and represent FXFC in a professional manner (TDC, NTDC, NAIC, CVSA).

Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.

Perform other tasks as needed.

DISCLAIMER

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Post-secondary diploma or four (4) years of professional experience directly related to the subject.
  • Five (5) years of experience in environmental health and safety or a related field, and/or within the less-than-truckload (LTL) industry.
  • Experience and understanding of security/loss prevention and generally accepted risk management practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Ministry of Transport, the OHS Act, the Canada Labor Code, Part II and any other regulations relating to health, safety and the workplace.
  • Certification from the Canadian Council of Certified Safety Professionals (CCPSA) required, or ability to successfully complete this certification within 24 months of hire.
  • CMSST Level I and II certification required, or ability to successfully complete this training within 12 months of hire.
  • WHMIS certification required, or ability to successfully complete this certification within three (3) months of hire.
  • Certification on the TMD required, or ability to pass this certification within three (3) months of hire.
  • Experience investigating workplace accidents required.
  • Knowledge of occupational hygiene, the Building Code and the Fire Prevention Code.
  • Valid driving license required.
  • Bilingualism (English/French), an asset; required in Quebec.
  • Very good problem-solving and analytical skills, and excellent attention to detail.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Internet and Outlook).
  • Ability/willingness to learn new applications or software, systems and equipment as needed.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks and multitask.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, both written and oral, and strong persuasion, collaboration and partnership skills with all levels of the organization.

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

  • Work schedule may vary depending on operational needs.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Canada and the United States, including overnight.
  • May be required to work in varying weather conditions and/or work environment (e.g. dock, yard, trailer, loud noises).
  • Must be able to work different shifts as needed (e.g., early morning, late evening or night).

Remuneration: $63,000.00 to $83,000.00 per year
